Price per m² versus the real bill

You never buy exactly 20 m². Cutting along walls and doors creates waste, and floors are sold in whole boxes. Together, that makes the difference between the price tag and the bill.

Worked example: material for 20 m²

FormatWasteBoxesm² boughtMaterial (RRP)per m² of room
Premium Wood (plank)7 %1322.3≈ €868≈ €43
Premium Stone7 %1321.7≈ €912≈ €46
Premium Herringbone10 %1322.2≈ €1,042≈ €52

Calculated from the box contents on the data sheet (1.712 / 1.671 / 1.705 m²) and RRP of €39 / €42 / €47 per m². Waste as a planning value; the actual figure depends on the floor plan.

What else goes on the bill

  • Skirting boards – by running metre of wall.
  • Transition profiles – at doors only if the area exceeds 15 × 15 m or the floor changes.
  • Subfloor – levelling compound where uneven, removing the old floor if needed.
  • Installation – if you are not laying it yourself.

Prices for these items vary by region. Your dealer lists them in the quote.

Where you can save

  • Lay it continuously: up to 15 × 15 m without transition profiles, across several rooms.
  • Install it yourself: plank and stone look are easy with the click system. Herringbone needs more planning.
  • Over the old floor: if the subfloor is level and solid, there is no demolition or disposal – often over tiles too.
  • Plan whole boxes: ordering several rooms together makes better use of offcuts.
